87 – Sunday 28 March 2009 : the girl with the dragon tattoo

Caroline and I saw this movie tonight.  We were really looking forward to it, having read the book (by Swedish writer Stieg Larsson).

I am so pleased that the film was made by Swedes and not in Hollywood.  It was faithful to the essentials of the book.  Indeed I am sure that even more people will be prompted to read the book having seen the movie.

Noomi Rapace is perfect as Lisbeth Salander, the girl with the dragon tattoo.  She really got the character right.  The photography of Sweden was excellent.

A word of warning, though.  There are some brutal scenes.  These are perhaps explained by the fact that the Swedish title of the book is “Men Who Hate Women”, and there is some unpleasant violence in the book. A Hollywood film would have overdone this aspect, I think.

We are now waiting for the third and final book in the series, due from Amazon when it is published in the UK within a few days.
