89 – Tuesday 30 March 2019 : the moving finger writes

In Watching on March 30, 2010 by Gabor Tagged:

This evening we watched an excellent BBC documentary on The Genius of Omar Khayyam, 11th century Persian poet and astronomer. Interviews and scientific discourse interleaved with readings from his famous Rubaiyat. The 19th century translation by Edward Fitzgerald is beautiful. We have just ordered a copy.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
